Building Friendships, Splashing into Fun: ASP Field Trip 2025 at McGlion Ranch
This month, our Tidechangers After School Program (ASP) took things outdoors with our annual field trip to McGloin Ranch, and it was a day to remember!
Students from Cunningham Middle School of South Park (attending for the second year) and Driscoll Middle School (joining us for the first time) came together for a full day of adventure, laughter, and friendly competition. And the best part? Next year, we’re excited to welcome Martin Middle School into the mix as our free, faith-based outdoor mentorship program continues to grow across the Coastal Bend!
McGlion Ranch was the perfect backdrop for our students to break away from their routines and dive into some good old-fashioned fun. They kayaked across the water, cooled off in the swimming area, and even squared off in a volleyball match that stirred up just a little bit of school pride and rivalry.
One of the most memorable moments? The dunk tank, where students got the chance to soak their friends... and then, with big smiles and loud cheers, take their best shot at dunking Steve Chavez, our Tidechangers ASP Program Coordinator. Safe to say, Steve took it like a champ!

The kids also tried their hand at archery, adding a touch of adventure to the day. To keep cool, they enjoyed Kona Ice, a fun and refreshing treat that hit the spot in the Texas heat.
Thanks to our amazing sponsors, the day was full of special touches:
LAF provided the delicious food, the ranch, and lifeguards to keep everyone safe.
Gulfstream Condos sponsored custom shirts in each school's colors, helping the students show off their school spirit.
This trip wasn’t just about having fun, it was about bringing youth together, building new friendships, and showing them the power of positive outdoor experiences. Watching two schools interact, laugh, compete, and encourage each other was a beautiful reminder of why this program exists.

But the real impact of Tidechangers goes beyond field trips. It’s seen in the lives of students—like the one described by Principal Rachel Neff-Rupp of Cunningham Middle School, who shared:
“Tide Changers is making such a difference at Cunningham MS at South Park for so many of my students. One student in particular was always in and out of trouble his 6th grade year. He was disrupting class, talking back to teachers, and just getting into minor problems at school. He joined Tide Changers his 7th grade year, and he is a different boy. He is involved in his classes and school and he is always respectful. Through the mentorship of Tide Changers, we see someone that is becoming a leader on campus and more confident in himself. He enjoys school and is thinking about his future. He participates in our Monday Tide Changers program and even goes to the Westside chapter on his own time. We are so happy to see what the positive influence of the mentors of Tide Changers have done for our Wolves and thankful to partner with them.”
Stories like this are why we do what we do.
With Martin Middle School set to join next year, we’re more excited than ever to watch this community of students and mentors grow—and to see more lives transformed by the love, leadership, and outdoor adventures that define Tidechangers.
